This week the students were introduced to color pencils and how to use them. Sure, they have drawn with color pencils before, and probably have a set of them at home to use, but during art time, it is important for them to know a "little" more than they are something you can draw with.
I gave the students a copy of a hand-made "handout" that required them to blend colors and shade using different values of a color. I told thenm that it was a lot like mixing paints, but instead, mixing pencils. I was great to see the students excited about learning new skills with a pencil. The sheet only took half of the period to do so I let them experiment with mixing colors the rest of the art period.
